Last week at Carlsbad Ocean Pearl Spa I was reminded that drinking water gives our skin a radiant, healthy, younger- looking complexion. As I indulge myself at Ocean Pearl Spa water bar, I could not stop thinking of how water is really the #1 liquid ingredient to keep our skin in a healthy stage.
The fact is skin is an organ and just like any other part of the body. Our skin is made up of cells. Skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without water the skin will certainly not function properly or at its best.
Lack of Hydration
- Dry, tight and flaky skin
- Less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling
Water is essential to health; our bodies are composed of up to 60 percent water. In extreme cases dehydration can lead to low energy. To avoid dehydration we need to keep a reservoir of water inside us.
You might be thinking, “How can I keep my reservoir of water inside me? If you are like me, I have a hard time drinking at least 4-8 glasses of water a day!” The fact is that we shouldn’t let our busy lives and dislikes of running to the bathroom often or dull taste keep us away from the health benefits of water.
Start now, before dehydration damages can happen. With these few tips, you’ll keep your skin and body hydrated.
Adopt a water bottle
Select a water bottle to drink from throughout the day. This will help you become more aware of your water consumption. A larger container that holds 32 oz. will need to only be refilled once to achieve 8 glasses of water. This strategy simplifies having water easily accessible and easy to manage.
Glass bottle
The purity of taste and ease of cleaning helps to maintain the new ritual of drinking water every day. Here, the best glass bottle I found (and sourced for you!). Lifefactory – Glass Bottle with Flip Cap $22.99

Stainless Steel bottle
Stainless steel keeps your water icy cold up to 24 hours or piping hot up to 6 hours, excellent for outdoor activities. Hydrofask- 32oz. wide bottle $33.99

Add a refreshing element to your water!
I believe the best way to stay motivated with our water in-take is to bring the spa experience home. The water looks beautiful with the lemon and cucumber and the taste is refreshing!
Recipe
1-gallon cold water → 3-4 slices fresh lemon → 3-4 slices cucumbers
Directions
Place all the ingredients into a pitcher and serve! For stronger taste, let the water sit in your refrigerator for an hour prior to serving
“Eating” your water
We can eat our water by incorporating 4-8 servings a day of raw fruits and vegetables. The water encapsulated with foods, is a great way to hydrate our skin from the inside out.
