Winter is that time of year when our skin to becomes extremely dry and dehydrated.  Cold winds, air conditioning units, forced air heating and low temperatures can also dry out skin and contribute to premature aging.

What is dry dehydrated skin?

Dry skin generally refers to skin that is lacking in oil. Dehydration is characterized by lack of moisture/water in the Stratum Corneum (upper layer of the skin). A true dry skin is lacking oil and moisture.

Dry dehydrated skin can experience:

  • Irritation, inflammation, itchiness and sensitivity.
  • A feeling of tightness or tautness.
  • A look or feel of roughness
  • Slight to server flaking and scaling.
  • Fine lines, server redness and cracks.

Consequences of dry dehydrated skin:

One of the biggest consequences of dry skin is an increase in sensitivity, as dryness is a precursor to sensitized skin. Addressing it quickly can help band off issues of sensitization.

How to Address?

A complete home care plan should include the following:

Cleansing

A cleanser is the first step for effectively treating dry skin. Gently cleans to remove surface dirt and prepare the skin to receive the next products. BEST ingredients Sodium hyalorante, glycerin, sodium PCA and urea: Hydrators that replenish. Cleans twice at pm to insure removable of make up and dirt.

Toning

Extracts of coconut, honey and Bulgarian rose water are among the ingredients you should look for. Use a toner as often as you like- under or over make up. I keep a toner at my desk!

Exfoliation

Exfoliating provides the ultimate in skin remodeling through increasing cell turnover.   Unique rice-base enzymes to Glycolic or Vitamin A help to restore a smooth and brighter complexion. Use during the evening three times per week.

Masking

A mask is designed to enhance the health of the barrier and texture of the skin. Ingredients to provide moisture and nourishment, Passion Flower, Honey and Olive Leaf Extract are an excellent choice for dry skin needs. Mask twice a week and you will notice fast solution to dry skin.

Serum

While product layering is a great solution for dry skin, use a serum that is intensely moisturizing. Persea Americana (Avocado) oil, Limnathes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed) oil, Jojoba oil and Rosehip Seed are my favorite ingredients to control dry skin. Apply before bed and wake up with plump, deeply hydrated complexion!

Moisturizing

To revitalize your dry skin, apply a cream that is made with ingredients to nourish. Pomegranate, Shea butters mix with antioxidants, Grapeseed and Rosehip oils. An ultimate skin-restoring moment will be experience!

Lifestyle

The trend of fat-free diets can deprive our bodies of skin-friendly Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). This deficiency can result in chronic itching, dryness; scaling, thinning and can lead to an imbalance.

Excess intake of alcoholic beverages and certain medications (such as nasal decongestants) can also contribute to dry dehydrated skin.
