The skincare habits we teach our teens today will help keep their skin healthy for the rest of their life.   It’s important to understand that skin is a living organ that changes throughout life. So skin care regiments should be adjusted accordingly.

An ideal teen skin regimen

Have your teen establish a twice a day cleansing routing.   The product choice depends on your teen’s skin concerns + lifestyle.   I have learn that with teens we need to keep it simple but target focus. Start by incorporating a cleanser, treatment serum, Moisturizer and SPF product.

The best way to select the proper skin care regimen for your teen’s skin is, first identify their skin type and conditions.   Understand that skin conditions are driven by lifestyle and skin type are genetic and may be stimulated by our teens fluctuating hormones.

Common Teen Skin Types Common Teen Skin Conditions
Oily Dehydration
Combination Congestion
Acne

Skin Types and Conditions go hand and hand, a teen may have an oily skin but at the same time experiencing dehydration. A rule to keep in mind when selecting your teen’s skincare; select the cleanser that controls their skin type and treatment serums, moisturizer that correct their skin conditions.

Now let’s take a closer look

Step 1. Cleanse- Deep clean and purify the skin with ingredients that will not strip the skins natural oils. Look for cleanser with purifying ingredients like Orange Peel, and Tea Tree. Salicylic Acid breaks up dead skin cells and clears trapped oil to help clear existing and future breakouts.   When applying make sure your teen lathers a small amount of the cleanser into damp hands, then apply over face. Adds more water to thoroughly rinse off. My teen kept leaving product around his hairline.

Step 2. Treatment Serum-A light weight serum that will treat the skin condition. To keep sebum under control, Niacinamide has proven to assist in regulating the sebaceous gland. While Benzoyl Peroxide stops breakouts-causing bacteria in the follicle, suggest spot treat the breakout with BP.

Step 3. Moisturize-Special moisturizer hydrates the skin by providing ingredients that will repair the skins natural barrier. Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful hydrator that continuously delivers moisture to the skin. Burdock Root Extract helps hydrate and calm the skin. Willow Bark provides a natural source of Salicylic Acid.  To avoid layering sunblock and moisturizer during a.m. time, moisturizer can be apply at p.m. time.

Step 4. SPF protection-Physical sunscreen blocks damaging UVA and UVB radiation. Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are safe and #1 sunscreen ingredients, as designated by the United States E.P.A.

Daily four-step regimen transforms teenagers’ stressful skin situations into a simple, manageable part of their daily routine.
